I have a 97 1.6L corolla (automatic) and its tooo slow......
so far all I've done is the following;
Weapon R intake
JVT racing headers (ebay)
Flowmaster exhaust
Magnaflow Cat. converter
So im most likely not going to be able to get more air in or out without turbo/super charger.
SO WHATS NEXT. im looking to get performance before I do a bodykit or rims. Im thinking a performance chip but ive read hear and other places toyotas dont have many options for this.
What do you guys think is the best way to increase horsepower without breaking the bank. i dont have alot of cash but im sick of being slow ( i use to have a 91 toyota cressida with a straight 6 and it floated pretty nice.)
SO WHERE DO I GO NOW, (with this engine), thanks
(we are all professional smarta$ses on the internet so if you dont have real advice then dont bother)

First off, welcome to Toyota Nation! I'd start by getting rid of the automatic transmission and swapping it with a 5-speed. Another thing you could do would be to reduce the weight of the car by removing the rear seats, spare tire etc. Smaller/lighter wheels will help too. I'm not too familiar with the Weapon R intake, but if the pod filter is located anywhere inside the engine bay then make sure you relocate it behind the bumper. Warm air is an instant power absorber. Aside from that, there's not a whole lot you can do to the 4A-FE engine without going down the turbo or nitrous route, apart from doing an engine swap . Good luck on your quest to gain more power!

I thought advancing timing a couple notches is OK and can get you a little more pep?
And lightening does wonders. Taking 200lbs off a 107hp car with a short ram (my old 1.6L Sentra) resulted in 2 seconds being shaved off the 0-60. Of course I removed EVERYTHING (it was bare metal front to back, nothing besides the dash and driver's seat inside) to achieve a 200lb drop.

Speaking of that, my ODBI system finally threw a CEL! I think it FINALLY realized that the O2 sensor is toast, LOL. Frikkin ODBI
