Flimsy low quality wheel covers from Toyota + Do not care attitude dealer and Toyota.

When I recieved my new Corolla in the fall of 2009 I found that tabs were broken on one of my wheel covers when I removed it to install the winter rim and tire. The dealer told me that they get damaged during installation but would not replace the wheel cover. I called Toyota but all I got was a sorry we can not help you with that answer. Now 18 months later I get a horrific squeaking from the wheel cover with the broken tabs. The other wheels without broken tabs have to be checked every day as sometimes I find that they become loose and are about to fall off. I have noticed many Corollas with wheel covers tie wrapped to the wheel and I am wondering if Toyota tells their dealers to do this because they know there is a potential problem with the wheel covers flying off. i am disappointed with my Corolla with the several recalls and the low quality wheel covers as well as the DO NOT CARE ATTITUDE concerning my wheel covers. Has any others of you had trouble with their wheel covers or are not satisfied with the quality?

It is indeed a somewhat rare occurrence to have issues with the wheel covers, considering how many are out there exposed to people's inexperienced driving.

Sucks that you've had issues, I hope Honda keeps you happier.

Regardless of the auto manufacturer, you're always going to encounter good ones and bad ones. That's just the way it is.

You probably broke them because you don't know how to take them off properly.

Just sayin..........

No, they were broken when they were new, The service manager admits that they are usually broken during installation, not when they are removed. I have removed the wheel covers and re-installed them over 2 winters when I switch over to winter rims and tire without breaking them.

Yet they were fine until you removed and reinstalled them ?? We remove and install these all day long with no problems until they get old and brittle. I would also politely ask you to go pound sand.

PS, All manufactures have recalls, And you breaking a hubcap either removing or installing it is not a manufacture defect and would be declined for warranty payment to the dealer on inspection. Go trade in your Toyota for a Honda over a broken tab on a hubcap that you broke, Don't just make idle threats.

I have always suspected that there are Toyota Shills on this board. Toyota is sitting on their big pile of cash but they are loosing customers by the millions from up and coming companies like Hyundai an Kia.

Go pound sand? Thats what Toyota will be doing if they treat their clients like this. The way to hurt Toyota is to not support the dealerships, Only warranty repairs ( take it to another Toyota dealer if you can ) Oil changes and tire repairs can be done non - dealer garages.

As far as Honda hub caps go, they are made from a superior quality plastic, they have a superior design and are held in place with the wheel lug nuts.

Exactly. And regardless of the manufacturer, there are good and bad dealers.

On another note, my buddy has a '10 Corolla and he has the same issue where his hubcaps become loose for no apparent reason. He already had one fall off while he was driving and the car is 9 months old

I have one wheel cover that makes a eek eek sound as I drive down the street. The plastic deforms and the lug is no longer holding the wheel on, it is just rubbing on the rim. The dealer sais tough titties, thats your problem. When the time comes, and it will come.....................they might be hearing the words tough titties when I buy a new car.

Yep, I have a 2008 Corolla and it came with the flimsy wheel covers. The dealer wants $100 bucks a piece to replace them when they fall off. Product quality in regard to toyota wheel covers has dropped to an unacceptable level. I can get a decent set of 4 for under $30. It is truly sad that toyota seems to be producing their own demise. I am so disgusted with the toyota service department at the dealership that I quit taking my car to them and went to community college to learn everything I need to do the work myself. It pains me so much to see a company (that I grew up with) has let me and so many other people down. Its not the end of the world over wheel covers, but my concern is what else will be done half arse.

Loosing customers by the millions to Hyundai?

Toyota sells more Corollas then their entire lineup. If you are going to buy a different car due to hub caps, id seriously have to question your intelligence. Im sure there are a few things that Honda does better than Toyota, and there are a few things that Toyota does better than Honda. Id go as far as to say I bet I can find one thing on a Chrysler Sebring thats better than the Corolla or Civic. That doesnt mean you would buy their car right?
