Clutch Fluid Replacemen?

I recently read that some Tacoma owners replace some of there clutch fluid at every oil change buy sucking some of the fluid out of the reservoir with a turkey baster and replacing it with fresh fluid. Do any of you guys do this? Is there a recommended time to replace the fluid?

What color should the fluid be? and what type of fluid is recommended?

I have never heard of that. I can't see it would serve any use. You'd be replacing what good fluid there is in the system with...good fluid. I've never personally changed my clutch fluid, but now you've got my interest. I have, in fact, changed out my brake fluid on my truck and car. The fluid that came out was black. There's no denying when the new fluid reaches the calipers. The brakes get extremely hot and needs replacing periodically. Now, I can't see why the clutch would be any different. Now my OCD compells me learn how to do this to my clutch's hydraulic system. I always go synthetic when changing any fluids, as it lasts longer and is cleaner, pricey, but better.

Thanks for causing me to spend more money.

Brake and clutch master cylinder fluid is the most overlooked maintenance item ever!

Brake fluid absorbs water. When it does it loses efficiency and causes decay of rubber components and corrodes metal ones. That brown color it becomes is proof. If you cant see through it you're overdue.

CHANGE BOTH! CHANGE OFTEN! Most of my reading says do it every 2 years. Judging by the color of the fluid, 2 years is about right but you can go longer. Its your vehicle.

Spend the ~ $30 for a vacuum pump. Use it so suck out the reservoir, THEN CLEAN the reservoir of all the gunk in it. Fill up the reservoir and vacuum at the the bleeder until you get clear fluid. When you do brakes, start at the wheel furthest away from the MC.

Valvoline has a good synthetic available at popular auto parts stores and its on sale now at Advance.

You can't mix conventional with synthetic...unless you put some Dawns dishwashing liquid with it.

There are a number of DOT4 synthetics and they ARE compatible. Only DOT5 SILICONE fluid should not be mixed with others.

It kind of doesnt matter what Toyota used since you will be flushing all that nasty brown stuff out to make nice clear fluid.
