Amsoil vs Toyota brand oil

I'm picking up my new 2011 Camry SE tomorrow and I was just wanting to know everyone opion. Would you use Amsoil or Toyota brand oil? And I will change it to owners man. specs.

When you ask about the Toyota Motor oil, is it the one in the black bottle or the Eneos synthetic oil they sell at the Toyota parts counter (as far as I know at my local dealership). It really comes down to conventional (toyota) vs synthetic (Amsoil). Some say that the new Toyotas are filled with synthetic and there are many benifits with synthetic. Others will say just change the oil on time with a good filter and motor oil. It's really just personal preference now.

Anyone else want to chime in?

This is always a good topic to start a flame war. I'd suggest and spend an hour reading chapters 101-109 and make your own informed decision.

I do what is the cheapest!!!

I print out the coupon at the Wolburn MA toyota dealership and do a fully synthetic change (using Toyota's brand... which I think is mobile 1 but not possitive).

An oil change costs me about $42.00. I think that is a pretty good price.

I agree with researching it. Most shops carry whatever their distributor will carry and deliver them. Toyota does not make their own oil, I have run Valvoline Synthetic for years but thats a long story. If you follow toyotas recommendations I don't think you have much to lose either way !

Toyota 0w20 is formulated for Toyota by Exxon/Mobil with extra moly (molybdenum) additive.

Both Amsoil and Toyota are great oils.

If I go Amsoil,it will probably be their signature 0w30.

Personally, I use mobil synthetic or pennzoil ultra in all of my cars.

But overall, any name brand conventional oil should be just fine as long as you change it as scheduled

Amsoil is good stuff, my cousin is a dealer, uses it in everything. I use it in my snowmobiles and ATV's (2 stroke oil).

I have used it in my car in the past (not the Camry). I Am running Royal Purple in the Camry.

But over all you can push it to about 8-10k miles (with a filter change between). With no problems.

There's my .02

The 2011 Camry SE 4 cylinder comes from the factory with synthetic oil. The V6 version comes from the factory with dino oil.

Just as an FYI. I'd normally run Mobil 1 in my SE, but since Toyota is paying for my oil changes for 2 years/25k, I'll let them run their own stuff in it for now.

I believe Toyota calls for an API 0W-20 in the 2011 Camry. Does the the Amsoil 0w-20 have the API/SAE SM rating? If not, this could cause warranty claim problems.I think many of Amsoil's claims are their own fabrication. You can do as good using Toyota's sythetic oil or one of the other sythetics sold at the parts houses. Enjoy you new car.

I am sure you already made your decision, but I wouldn't use Amsoil if you are "going to follow the recommended schedule" doesn't make much sense if you are not going to an extended oil change schedule...just but Walmart oil and change at 4-5000 miles.....works in my Camry, Tundra and Lexus....good luck. Here ia a bit off topic. What weight oil is recommended for my 09 hybrid, and does the recommended weight change for 2010? The dealer has bulk synthetic for 2010 hybrid which is pretty cheap but I thought he said it was just a bit different than my recommended oil.

I use synthetic in my LS430, and it is not that much different in cost than it used to be so I use it and it seems to stay cleaner longer than dino oil. I usually go 7 k in between with Valvoline syn and dealer charges me 11 bucks and I get a wash out of the deal.
