Recommended muffler??? Plz help!!

I have a 95' Camry LE 2.2L and I was wondering if anybody could recommend a custom muffler to me? I want it to sound like a "ricer" but not like a piece of crap.... Please help me, i am open to any and all suggestions.

k2motors makes a knockoff of the apexi mufflers. I got mine for like 30 bucks. The price is a little higher now, but still cheap.

Dynomax super turbo.

Despite the ricerish name, it is a fairly quiet muffler. It's not a straight through design, but was done with performance in mind. I had one on my CRX and it sounded stock until 3K RPMs and had a nice low rumble after that. Don't know how it would sound on a Camry though....

First off, Welcome to TN. Second, be sure to use the search function in the future before posting. these questions have been asked before and often the these old threads are supplied with part numbers, pics and vids.

no flowmaster, chamered mufflers are not good on our cars. But Magnaflow mufflers are awesome. good sound, not loud and they come with tons of different tip styles already installed.

they can be expensive but they are great quality. you can check ebay too, they are cheaper there. not to mention they have knockoffs that look the same but teh quality isnt as good.

How come? I have a Flomaster on my Camry and while it's a bit loud, the quality is there since my driveway likes to reach up and grab the muffler at times



What's your reasoning here? Just curious...

its not a quality issue, its a restriction issue. the idea with thoes mufflers is sound minipulation and back pressure preservation. this last part is very important in cars with very low end tq. it is big with guys with older V8s because they maintain low end torque while giving a better flowing muffler. the problem is that we dont have low end torque, or a lot of it...especially a 5sfe. to maximize exhaust scavenging and reduce back pressure we need to use gradually larger sections of exhaust components to decrease pressure in the system and maximize scavenging. chambered mufflers dont do this well on a high end torque motor. Since our Tq is mid range and single bank, the only way to maximize scavenging is to use some complicated valve on the exhaust or to increase diameters gradually.



however, chambered mufflers, if big enough, can do this. BUT they are baffeled and tuned for the multiple sides of a V6 or V8 exhaust. some guys with V6s and V8s who DO NOT use an X or H pipe see a decrease in power with chambered mufflers. these mufflers are designed in large part to aid scavenging on two bank engines, not on inline motors.



This is what i learned while i had my old muscle car. in short, yes you will likely maintain your stock torque (as opposed to loss of it at lower rpms due to lack of stock tuned back pressure...which can be tuned back)...but wont see any gains higher up in the rpm range where our power band sits.

May I be the first to suggest either a FLO~PRO glasspack or Twister? That would give you the sound you are looking for. Good for your fuel economy and performance as well.

Also you might try looking up sound clips on youtube. make sure to check for videos with your specific engine to get the most accurate results.
